Around the Track: Previewing the FireKeepers Casino 400 in Michigan

BROOKLYN, MI ( CHARLOTTE SPORTS LIVE ) — With only three races to go, NASCAR’s Cup Series is poised for a great race at one of the Great Lakes.

Strategy will be a big factor at the FireKeepers Casino 400. The margin for error is at an all-time low in the Irish Hills. Drivers say it’s one of the fastest tracks in the sport, and maybe one of the slickest. Racers prepare for this like they do for Indy, except you can’t pass as easily here despite how wide it is.

Ford has quite the reputation in the Great Lakes as the manufacturer has won nine straight times, 44 total, at Michigan International Speedway. No car maker has had a better run here and rightfully so- the commercial cars are made just about an hour from the track.

Chris Beuscher won last year and he’ll need to find a way to do it again this year to punch his ticket into the playoffs.

Sunday’s Cup Series race at Michigan International Speedway starts at 2:30 p.m.
