CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A local Olympic medalist is returning to the Charlotte area this week.

Kaylyn Brown, who won gold and silver in Paris, will be greeted by fans in Gastonia and Charlotte.

Brown was part of the qualifying team for the women’s 4×400-meter relay team that won gold in the finals and won silver on the mixed 4×400-meter relay team.

On Wednesday, Brown will be honored by the Gastonia Baseball Club. There is no game that night as the team is on the road. Gates open at CaroMont Health Park at 5:30 p.m. and the event starts at 7 p.m.

Two days later Brown will be celebrated by her high school alma mater at the Mallard Creek Auditorium. Brown placed 2nd in both the 200-meter dash and 400-meter dash at the 2022 NCHSAA Outdoor Championships.

Later that summer, Brown won gold in the mixed 4×400-meter relay at the 2022 World U20 Championships. She ran the anchor leg in the prelims with a time of 53.19 as Team USA set a then-meet record of 3:18.65. She did the same time on the Olympic team in Paris- ran the anchor leg for Team USA that set a world record in the prelims.

Brown is now a sophomore at the University of Arkansas. As a freshman, she placed 2nd in the women’s 400-meter dash with a time of 49.13. In that event, the Razorbacks had the top four finishers which catapulted them to the team NCAA title. It was Arkansas’ first win since 2019, and their third NCAA Championship in the last eight seasons.
