CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Charlotte police are investigating a deadly crash in north Charlotte Saturday afternoon.

CMPD says the crash happened around 3 p.m. on the 900 block of Parkwood Avenue. Parkwood Avenue was currently closed between Siegel Avenue and Allen Street.

When officers arrived, they saw a damaged 2008 Honda CBR motorcycle and its driver unresponsive, and a damaged 2017 Nissan Rogue with its driver and a passenger.

The motorcyclist, 28-year-old Spencer Deon Gripp, was pronounced dead at the scene. The two occupants of the Nissan were not injured.

Investigators believe Gripp was going east on Parkwood Avenue at a high rate of speed, while the Nissan was going north on Harrill Street, crossing Parkwood. Gripp crashed into the back left of the Nissan and was ejected from his motorcycle.

Police say his next of kin has been notified and that this remains an active investigation.
