CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, S.C. ( QUEEN CITY NEWS ) — A man is facing a slew of charges after exchanging gunfire with deputies during a standoff following a domestic situation, SLED said.

The ordeal began Wednesday, Aug. 21, and continued overnight into Thursday, Aug. 22. The Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office had gotten a call regarding a domestic situation in the parking lot of a local fitness center. Pageland Police also responded to the scene.

As authorities arrived at the area, they came upon Kenneth Bragg, 37, who they said began firing shots at police in the parking lot and then drove away.

Bragg was located a short time later, which led to an exchange of gunfire and a vehicle chase, according to SLED. A SLED helicopter was called in to assist in the pursuit at that time.

Authorities said during the chase Bragg fired several shots at the SLED helicopter. They said Bragg then barricaded himself inside a home along Salebarn Lane.

Following an hours-long overnight standoff, Bragg was taken into custody on Thursday morning. Authorities said Bragg fired shots throughout the incident. Thankfully, no one was harmed.

SLED said Bragg damaged two of their drones and two of their robots during the encounter.

On Friday, Aug. 23, SLED formally charged Bragg with 29 offenses in connection to this incident.

This remains an open and ongoing investigation. This incident marks the 31st officer-involved shooting in South Carolina and the first for Chesterfield County this year, SLED said.
