ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. ( QUEEN CITY NEWS ) — A minor is facing charges after making an unfounded bomb threat Friday, according to the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were called to East Rowan High School just before 12:30 p.m. on August 30 after the threat was reportedly emailed to school staff. Students and staff were evacuated while deputies searched the school. Nothing suspicious was found.

Officials say two explosives detection K-9s with the Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office also searched the school and could not find anything suspicious. Once the building was found to be safe, students and staff went back in.

That afternoon, Deputies got a tip as to who made the threat. It was later confirmed that the juvenile named in the tip had made the bomb threat, and the minor was charged on a juvenile referral.

The Rockwell and Granite Quarry-Faith Police Departments and the Rowan
County Rescue Squad, Fire and EMS also help during the incident.

Rowan-Salisbury Schools began school on August 8.
