BLOWING ROCK, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A motorcyclist was killed after crossing the centerline and hitting another vehicle, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

Around 7:35 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 30, highway patrol investigated the crash on US 321 near Rocky Knob Road in Caldwell County.

Traffic delays expected in Rock Hill Saturday morning due to Duke Energy transformer delivery

Officials say a 2017 Kawasaki motorcycle was going north on US 321 when it crossed the center line and hit a 2014 Mercedes Benz SUV going south.

The motorcyclist, 64-year-old Robert Thomas Kampfer, was ejected from the motorcycle and died to his injuries at the scene. The driver and passenger in the Mercedes were not injured.

Investigators believe careless and reckless driving were contributing factors in the crash and say no charges will be filed.
