(PINPOINT WEATHER) — Monday kicks off the work week with sunny skies and light winds before clouds build late in the week and rain chances ramp up this weekend.

Overnight lows have dipped into the low to mid-50s around the Queen City with mountain counties sitting in the mid-40s to start the day. High pressure will continue to drive the forecast for the first half of the week with mostly sunny skies locked over the Carolinas.

Highs will land in the low 80s today as winds stay light out of the east-northeast. Tonight will be cool and comfortable dipping into the upper 50s before mid-80s take hold on Tuesday. We’ll stay sunny through mid-week with Wednesday hitting the low 80s through mid-week.

We’re watching an area of low pressure over the Gulf of Mexico that will likely develop into a tropical storm later today. This would likely be Francine and the storm is forecasted to track north toward the coast of Louisiana by Wednesday morning and potentially make landfall as a Category One hurricane.

As the system tracks north it will weaken and kick moisture into the Carolinas for the end of the work week. Look to see spotty showers and isolated storms move in Friday and linger through the weekend as temperatures sit in the upper 70s through Sunday.

Today: Mostly Sunny & Warm. High: 81.

Tonight: Mostly Clear & Comfortable. Low: 57.
