    1 killed, 1 injured during shooting at large fundraising event in Salisbury: Sheriff

    ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. ( QUEEN CITY NEWS ) — One person is dead and another is recovering in the hospital following a shooting Sunday night during a large fundraising event, according to the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office.

    The shooting occurred just before 9 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 8, at 585 Oak Mountain Road. Deputies said this address is frequently used as an open arena event center, and there was some type of fundraising event going on at the time, with a large crowd in attendance.

    A man, whose identity and age is not being released at this time, was found lying on the ground with a gunshot wound to his chest. Bystanders were administering aid as police arrived.

    A deputy at the scene, who was a former firefighter and EMT, administered lifesaving aid to the victim. The person was rushed to Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte and has since died.

    While at the scene, deputies learned that there was another shooting victim who had been transported by private vehicle to Novant Health Rowan Medical Center. That person is listed in stable condition.

    Identities are not being released at this time, pending family notification, authorities said.
