CHARLOTTE (CHARLOTTE SPORTS LIVE) — If a 37-point loss in Week 1 wasn’t bad enough, now the Panthers might be without one of their captains for the rest of the season.

CSL confirmed a report from NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero that defensive tackle Derrick Brown will miss extended time with a potential season-ending knee surgery. According to the report, it’s a meniscus injury that will require surgery, which will determine exactly how much time he will miss.

Brown, a 2023 Pro Bowler and 2024 team captain, finished Sunday’s game with three tackles. According to the Panthers, Brown played in 91% (60 plays) of defensive snaps against the Saints.

Brown signed an extension this offseason worth a reported $96 million that keeps him in Carolina through the 2028 season.
