    Student charged with having gun at Statesville High School: Police

    STATESVILLE, N.C. ( QUEEN CITY NEWS ) — A 16-year-old student is charged with having a gun at school on Monday, according to the city of Statesville and its police department.

    Just before 9 a.m. on September 9, police were alerted that a 16-year-old student tripped the metal detector at Statesville High School. School Resource Officers searched the student’s backpack and reportedly found a loaded 9mm handgun.

    Officials stress that no one was hurt and no threats were made. The gun was seized and secured without issue.

    Statesville Police and Iredell-Statesville Schools launched an investigation, which resulted in the student being charged with Felony Possession of a Firearm on Educational Property.

    Students in the district started the fall semester on August 12.
