(QUEEN CITY NEWS) — North Carolina students saw gains in most grades and subjects in 2023-24, according to data released last week from the State Department of Public Instruction.
School Performance Grades continue to show a steady increase of schools earning an A, B or C, while the number of schools earning a D or F declined nearly two percentage points.
The student achievement data for the 2023-24 school year is based on analysis of all end-of- grade (EOG) and end-of-course (EOC) tests.
Most schools in CMS history met or exceeded growth ’23-’24: Report Schools receive an A for 85-100, B for 70-84, C for 55-69, D for 40-54, and F for less than 40.
Here is how N.C. schools in the Queen City News viewing area faired. We identified the top-performing schools for elementary, middle and high in each district; for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, the top three for those categories are shown. The school with the highest growth score (out of 100) also is highlighted.
Schools that are the only ones for its grade level are marked with an asterisk(*). Charter and specialty schools, like “middle colleges,” are not included.
Union County Public Schools had the highest average School Performance Score for the area, at 72.3. The district’s Weddington High and Charlotte-Mecklenburg School’s Providence High had the highest scores at 93.
City-based districts, like Kannapolis, are listed underneath their county, for easier comparisons.
