CHARLOTTE, N.C. (CHARLOTTE SPORTS LIVE) — In its 11th year of existence, Carolina Panthers legend Steve Smith’s foundation hosted the annual Tee Up for Mental Health golf tournament Monday.

A huge crowd was on hand at Topgolf in southwest Charlotte for the event, with the former Panthers wide receiver busy entertaining the guests, taking photos and selfies and taking a few swings himself.

Part of the night hosted by the Steve Smith Family Foundation featured an auction where guests were able to bid on memorabilia, including a signed Smith mini-helmet and hat gift set and signed Bryce Young and Justin Jefferson jerseys, among other items.

Smith’s foundation has long focused on raising funds to improve access to critical mental health and wellness programs. It’s events like the one at Topgolf that remind him of his duty to help the underserved.

“This is a fabric of being here for almost 25 years now. Doing various events with various people, just staying grounded and in the community,” Smith said. “It’s important and it’s essential. At 45 years old, I’m beyond the platform and it’s just more of this is who I am.”
