CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) – A Charlotte postal worker entered a guilty plea Tuesday in a case involving the theft and resale of more than 1,400 cell phones, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of North Carolina announced.

Charlotte resident Miguel Bridges, 34, ple guilty on Tuesday in federal court to conspiracy to commit an offense against the United States for stealing cell phones from the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) and selling them for profit.

Court records stated that Bridges was charged in August and that the charges were still pending. Bridges was working as a postal employee at a Charlotte distribution center where more than 1,400 cell phones were stolen from unopened packages and sold for about $400,000.

The attorney’s office highlighted Tuesday’s plea as one of several recent cases amid a rise in mail thefts in the greater Charlotte area. Some of the other cases included fraudulent checks, bank fraud, and identity theft.
