    17-year-old boy charged in Monroe for shooting 14-year-old boy: Police

    MONROE, N.C. ( QUEEN CITY NEWS ) — A 17-year-old boy has been charged after shooting a 14-year-old boy, according to the Monroe Police Department.

    Around 6 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 8, officers responded to 226 Elizabeth Ave. about a shots fired call. That address is right across the street from East Elementary School in Monroe.

    When they arrived, they found a 14-year-old boy was shot near the street during an argument with the 17-year-old suspect.

    The victim was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries where he is expected to recover, officials said.

    The 17-year-old boy was charged through the Department of Juvenile Justice with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious bodily injury and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill. Police did not release his identity due to the ‘raise-the-age’ legislation.

    Detectives believe this is an isolated incident between teenagers who know each other. Anyone with information regarding the investigation should contact the police department at 704-282-4700.
