CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — What started as a cordial introduction between the two candidates, who have never met, quickly turned to jabs.

“The worst Vice President in the history of our country,” former President Donald Trump said about Vice President Kamala Harris.

“Donald Trump was fired by 81 million people,” Harris said.

Post-debate, Both Trump and Harris felt that they won over undecided voters.

“This was my best debate,” Trump told reporters.

“We have a lot of work to do,” Harris said at an event. “Tonight, I think, highlighted for the American people what’s at stake.”

Political scientist Chris Cooper believes it’s clear that it was a much better night for Kamala Harris than it was for Donald Trump.

“He did not really stay on message,” said political scientist Chris Cooper. “He took Harris’ bait every time she put it out there.”

The debate itself wasn’t policy heavy, and at times wandered off topic. Like this moment during the discussions on immigration.

“In Springfield, they’re eating the dogs, the people that came in,” Trump said. “They’re eating the cats. They’re eating the pets.”

    Both sides sparred over abortion.

“The government and Donald Trump, certainly should not be telling a woman what to do with her body,” Harris said.

Trump emphasized his stance on making it a state issue.

Nearly 60 million watched Trump-Harris debate

“The Supreme Court had great courage in doing it, and I give tremendous credit to those six justices,” Trump said.

Cooper says the general consensus is the person who wins the debate will get a slight bump, but it’s not likely the impact will be long lasting.

“What we expect to see is limited short-term effects,” Cooper said. “Those are great. They might help in the short run. Those might create more fundraising in the short run, but it’s a long way to November. To hold an effect like that would be very unusual.”

As a swing voter, I'm now voting for Harris, having watched the debate. Trump is senile. He said people are eating cats!
