UNION COUNTY, N.C. ( QUEEN CITY NEWS ) — The Union County Sheriff’s Office says they’ve arrested and charged a man for elder exploitation.

Officials say the investigation began when authorities were alerted to a local senior citizen who said an individual pretending to be a federal law enforcement officer was demanding money from him and threatening jail time if he didn’t comply.

Further investigation showed that the victim had already been defrauded out of a significant amount of money.

Yedave Avinash, 50, arranged a meet-up with the victim at the local business to collect the money. Detectives arrested Avinash and charged him with impersonating a law enforcement officer, obtaining property by false pretenses, exploitation of the elderly, and conspiracy to commit a felony.

Avinash was processed through the Union County Detention Center and is currently being held under a $150,000 secured bond. The investigation remains ongoing.
