Emergency crews work to locate missing swimmer on Lake Wylie

YORK COUNTY, S.C. ( QUEEN CITY NEWS ) — Authorities are working to locate a missing swimmer on Lake Wylie, south of the Buster Boyd Bridge.

As of 2 p.m. Monday, emergency crews were continuing to search the area where the swimmer was last seen. Each boat was working in a grid pattern using sonar and other methods.

“The weather is not great at the moment, but we are continuing the search,” the YCSO said.

The York County Sheriff’s Office Lake Patrol Unit, Aviation Response Unit, Newport Fire Department, Bethel Fire Department, and Carolina Dive and Rescue are assisting the SC Department of Natural Resources with locating the missing swimmer.

At 8:40 p.m. Sunday, the search was suspended overnight due to difficult weather and night-time conditions, the York County Sheriff’s Office said. It was picked up again around 5 a.m.
