Pinpoint Weather Alert: Potential Tropical Cyclone Eight to bring heavy rain, gusty winds this evening and overnight

(PINPOINT WEATHER) — Potential Tropical Cyclone Eight will continue to bring heavy rain and gusty winds to the region this evening and overnight.

The heavy rain will come in rounds during rush hour traffic, becoming more steady during the late evening and early overnight hours.

We are expecting 2-4 inches of rainfall through the evening, with locally higher amounts of up to 6 inches possible. Expect isolated flash flooding, especially in poor drainage areas and low-lying spots.

A Flood Watch has been issued for the Metro and counties east, along with Wind Advisories. A Flood Advisory was issued for Union County until 8 a.m. and Mecklenburg County until 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

Winds will also be gusting between 25-35 mph this evening. Winds could gust up to 40 mph at times. A few downed trees and powerlines can’t be ruled out, which could mean scattered power hits through the overnight.

The heaviest rain will shift west into the foothills and mountains late tonight and into early Tuesday morning. The rainfall will be more scattered for the morning commute and for the kiddos at the bus stop.

Temps will stay in the 60s through the rest of today, rising back into the 70s for Tuesday.

Potential Tropical Cyclone Eight will hang around the region through Wednesday as essentially a stalled frontal boundary. Luckily, the storm will wrap in some drier air over the coming days, allowing storm chances to be more scattered on Tuesday and Wednesday.
