    1 in custody, others sought in home break-in that led to chase in Union County: Sheriff

    UNION COUNTY, N.C. ( QUEEN CITY NEWS ) — One person is in custody and others are being sought in connection to a home break-in and subsequent police chase in Union County.

    According to the Union County Sheriff’s Office, several deputies and members of the Waxhaw Police Department were investigating a home break-in that happened in the Weddington area.

    The sheriff’s office confirmed with Queen City News the suspects involved in the reported break-in led authorities on a chase, eventually ditching the vehicle, and tried to run away.

    One suspect has been taken into custody and authorities are continuing to search for additional suspect(s) who ran away from the scene.

    Several area schools, including Marvin Elementary, have been placed on lockdown as a precautionary measure, the sheriff’s office confirmed.

    Anyone who lives in this area and may have information is asked to call 9-1-1.
