    Police: Shots fired at alleged shoplifter in parking lot of Morganton Lowe’s

    MORGANTON, N.C. ( QUEEN CITY NEWS ) — Shots were fired at an alleged shoplifter Tuesday afternoon in the parking lot of a local Lowe’s in Morganton, authorities announced.

    According to Morganton Police, the shoplifting and shooting incident happened just after 3 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17, at the Lowe’s Hardware store located on Burkemont Avenue.

    As officers arrived at the scene, they found a person who had allegedly fired shots outside the business. Statements made by witnesses indicated that the incident began when a person attempted to leave the store without paying for items.

    Witnesses also said that several shots were fired outside of Lowe’s in the parking lot as the alleged shoplifter was driving away. No injuries have been reported.

    The alleged shooter was not a Lowe’s employee, police said. The case remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call 828-509-3685.
