STATESVILLE, N.C. — A man is facing charges after a multiple-agency, high-speed chase out of Statesville.

Officials say around 8:30 p.m. on September 17, Statesville officers observed a traffic violation involving a 2003 black Chrysler PT Cruiser as it turned left onto US 70.

The vehicle accelerated while traveling west as officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop.

The suspect, later identified as Steven Tyler Hass, 26 of Statesville, exited east onto I-40 and continued at speeds reaching approximately 100 miles per hour.

NC State Highway Patrol deployed stop sticks in the vicinity of mile marker 166, which the vehicle struck but continued to travel east on I-40 before exiting onto US 64.

Due to the impact of the stop sticks, the vehicle began swerving across lanes for over a mile before stopping at the intersection of US 64 and Madison Road in Mocksville.

The Statesville Police Department, along with SHP and the Davie County Sheriff’s Office, apprehended Hass without further incident.

Hass was issued a $25,000 secured bond and has been charged with the following offenses:

    • Driving while impaired
    • Felony flee to elude arrest
    • Driving with no operator’s license
    • Failure to stop for blue lights, siren
    • Reckless driving
    • Directional signals violation
    • Driving left of center
    • Improper passing on the right
    • Failure to yield at stop sign/traffic signal
    • Driving without two headlamps

Hass is currently in the custody of the Iredell County Detention Center.
