CATAWBA COUNTY, N.C. ( QUEEN CITY NEWS ) — A man lost his life after a crash Wednesday evening, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

Just before 6 p.m. on Wednesday, September 18, troopers were called to a crash on Saint Peters Church Road near Springs Road.

Two Burns High School students dead after Cleveland County wreck: Officials

They say a 2005 Chevrolet Colorado was driving north on Saint Peters Church Road, went over the center line and off the left side of the road, hitting a fence post. The driver then got back on the road, drove off the right side of the roadway, hit landscaping material in a yard and crashed into a tree.

The driver, 52-year-old Taylorsville resident, Gregory Gilfilen died before he could be taken to a hospital.

Troopers say the crash was not caused by speed or impairment. Saint Peters Church Road was closed for about three hours while investigators were there.

This fatal wreck came after four others in nearby counties on Wednesday, including one in which two teenagers were killed and another injured outside their high school in Cleveland County.
