    2-year-old dies in hospital after shooting involving ‘unsecured firearm’ in Chester County, police say

    GREAT FALLS, S.C. ( QUEEN CITY NEWS ) — A 2-year-old boy has passed away in the hospital following a shooting Wednesday involving an unsecured firearm, Great Falls Police announced.

    The shooting happened on Wednesday, Sept. 18, at a home located on Washington Street.

    According to Greats Falls Police Chief Olen Martin, “The investigation at this point is focused on how an unsecured firearm was accessed.”

    Tragically, the toddler died from his injuries at MUSC Medical Center in Lancaster. Following the incident, a 7-year-old family member has been placed in emergency protective custody with the South Carolina Department of Social Services pending further investigation.

    Agents from the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division’s Crime Scene and Child Fatality Unit responded to the scene Wednesday. The Great Falls Fire Department, Chester County EMS, Great Falls Rescue Squad, Rossville Fire Department, and Richburg EMS also responded.
