Man charged for stealing Spectrum truck while being used for service in Lenoir: Police

LENOIR, N.C. ( QUEEN CITY NEWS ) — A man has been charged after a Spectrum service truck was stolen while a worker was actively working on power lines, according to the Lenoir Police Department.

Late Wednesday night, officers responded to a call about the truck being stolen within the 2400 block of Morganton Blvd. Officials say Frank Lynn Moody entered the truck and drove off while the utility worker was in the aerial basket.

Shortly after, Moody crashed into an overhanging utility line which caused a utility pole to break. The vehicle went a little further before coming to a stop off the roadway. The worker from the basket during the incident and sustained non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

As a result of the incident, a large part of Caldwell County experienced significant utility outages. Crews worked together to quickly restore service to the area.

Moody was taken into custody without incident. He was booked under a $100,000 bond for the charges of:

• Felony larceny of a motor vehicle
• Felony injuring wires and fixtures of utility companies
• Felony assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury
