Investigators say the firearm was left unsecured in the master bedroom and children were able to access it. The victim and another child were playing with the gun when the shooting happened.

Kunle Lawal Laguda Jr., 39, was identified as the one responsible for leaving the firearm in a place where children can reach it. He was taken to the Rock Hill Jail and charged with unlawful neglect of a child for placing the children at unreasonable risk of physical harm for having the firearm accessible, officials said. He was also charged with unlawful possession of a firearm by a person convicted of certain crimes as he was prohibited from possessing firearms.
