CHARLOTTE ( QUEEN CITY NEWS ) — A 13-year-old student brought an unloaded firearm to school on Tuesday morning, according to the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department.

Just before 9:45 a.m. on Tuesday, September 24, a CMPD student resource officer at Kennedy Middle School was told by school administration that a student had brought a gun to school.

The student reportedly showed the gun to a student on the bus and carried the firearm into school in a backpack.

The SRO found the student and took the gun. Other CMPD officers responded, and the student was arrested.

Officials say the student brought the gun from home, where it was kept in a gun box with a gun lock.

No one was injured. When asked, Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools did not say if the incident was connected with false threats made against several CMS middle and high schools.

The following message was sent from CMS to Kennedy Middle School families:

Good morning Kennedy Middle School families. This is Principal Sudimack with an important message about a situation that occurred at school. A student was found with an unloaded firearm on campus this morning. Law enforcement was called immediately, and an investigation is ongoing. All students and staff are safe and learning and teaching are continuing.

Please speak with your students about the serious consequences of bringing a weapon of any kind to school. It is a violation of the law and the CMS Code of Student Conduct to bring any weapon on campus. Consequences can include suspension, expulsion and even arrest. Thank you for your support of Kennedy Middle.

In 1999 the late, great Bernie Mac did the Kings of comedy concert at the old Charlotte Coliseum and said that "we are some punk-ass parents". Twenty -five years later, his statement proves to be accurate.
