CHARLOTTE ( QUEEN CITY NEWS ) — Video from a Queen City News viewer captured a possible tornado Thursday morning as heavy rain pounded the Charlotte area.

The video was taken from Jacob Sprankle Thursday from his home in Steele Creek. In the video, you can see what looks like a funnel, moving behind an apartment complex.

So far, the National Weather Service has not confirmed a tornado occurred Thursday in Charlotte. Queen City News will post the latest updates as they come into the newsroom.

We have a number of alerts, watches, and warnings over the Queen City all due to the impacts we’ll see from Helene. A Marginal Risk for severe weather sits over much of our mountain counties and Uptown while a slight risk for severe weather sits over our SC counties.

When it comes to our warnings, we’ll have a Tropical Storm Warning in effect for Mecklenburg County, Union County, and points west and south of Uptown.

We’ll also hold on to a Flood Watch for our counties west of I-77 as the foothills and higher elevations of North Carolina can see countless rounds of heavy rain.

This will all be ahead of the impacts Helene will bring overnight. Temperatures will be in the 70s on Thursday before winds continue to pick up overnight.

Helene will likely intensify into a Category 4 storm before making landfall near Tallahassee, FL. As the storm tracks north through the State of Georgia it will likely maintain Tropical Storm Force Winds through northern Georgia and Eastern Tennessee.

Overnight will be a soaker and host significant winds topping out at 40 miles per hour and gusting close to 60 miles per hour at times.

We can see life-threatening Flash Floods, potential landslides in our mountains, and strong winds leading to flying debris, downed trees, and spotty power outages.

Best practices tonight would be downloading the Pinpoint Weather App and keeping alerts on your volume up in case of any overnight warnings. Late Friday morning will dry out as winds linger and highs aim for the upper 70s and low 80s.
