SHELBY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — The 100th anniversary of the Cleveland County Fair had to wait due to the daylong rain from Hurricane Helene Thursday.

The opening for the centennial event was canceled. But organizers extended advanced sales through Thursday night.

“We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding as we navigate this ‘fair weather,’” they said in a social media post. “If you’ve been to the fair before, you know it’s part of the tradition, and this year, Hurricane Helene is taking it to the next level for our 100th anniversary!”

The fair is scheduled to run most days through Oct. 6. It is held at the fairgrounds on East Marion Street in Shelby.

Friday’s scheduled activities include a performance by country singer John Norris, the Flying Cortes Trapeze Spectacular and Dangerous Feats of Comedy. Gates open at 3 p.m., weather pending.
