    Charlotte Fire Department responds to nearly 300 emergency calls related to Helene

    CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Charlotte Fire crews responded to more than 550 calls during since midnight while the area has experienced heavy winds and rain from Helene.

    Out of the 559 emergency calls, 280 were directly related to the storm’s effects, Charlotte Fire officials say. This includes flooding, downed powerlines and storm damage.

    “Our firefighters remain on the front lines, still taking emergency and storm-related calls as we continue to serve and protect our residents during this challenging time,” the department said. “Charlotte Fire’s commitment to the safety and well-being of our community is a testament to the resilience and dedication of every firefighter in our department.”

    Outside of Mecklenburg County, Charlotte firefighters assisted with the extrication of a York County, South Carolina, man pinned by a large tree that fell into a home

    As the storm moved in Thursday night, they also responded to a two-alarm fire at a restaurant , unrelated to the storm.

    As of 4:30 p.m. Friday, there are approximately 93,000 outages in the Charlotte area.
