    Evacuation orders underway for parts of Mecklenburg, Gaston County

    CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Multiple areas in and around Charlotte have active evacuation orders, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Emergency Management Office .

    As of 12:40 p.m. on Saturday, these areas have evacuation orders until later this evening:

    Mandatory evacuation orders for the areas of:

    • Riverside Drive
    • Lake Drive
    • Riverhaven Drive
    • Parts of Beagle Club Road
    • Hart Road near Mountain Island Lake

    Voluntary evacuation orders:

    • Allison Ferry Road near Mountain Island Lake
    • Arthur Auten Drive
    • Drake Cove Road
    • Neck Road
    • Ballypat Lane
    • Johnson David Road
    • Latta Springs

    All residents who live along the shoreline of Lake Norman, Mountain Island Lake, the Catawba River, and Lake Wylie must be cautious and aware of rising water levels in the area.

    A shelter is open at Tuckaseegee Recreation Center as well as an emergency shelter at Belmont Middle School for Gaston County residents near Mountain Island Lake.

    Gaston County issued a voluntary evacuation for Nivens Cove Road. The City of Belmont has issued a voluntary evacuation order for Channel View Landing, Lake Ridge Drive, South Cove Lane and River Drive.

    Gaston County reports that as of 3:15 p.m. Saturday, 31.5% of people are still without power.
