CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — According to Google Maps, I-40 from Statesville all the way to the Tennessee-North Carolina border is closed.

NC Department of Transportation continues to urge people to not travel in or to western North Carolina as catastrophic flooding persists in the area due to Hurricane Helene.

Video from NCDOT shows a major washout on I-40 near the TN state line.

I-40 and I-26 is considered impassable in multiple locations in western N.C. As of Saturday morning, over 400 roads remain closed.

Travel in this area for non-emergency purposes could hinder emergency responses.

it's open to local traffic. they are asking truckers and travelers to turn off to I 77 N to 81 W. Or go through Shelby if you are going south. As of now if you pull up maps it gives other ways to get around.
