Driver killed after running off road in York County identified

YORK COUNTY, S.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash on Highway 161.

Officials say the accident occurred around 5:20 p.m., just east of York, S.C.

They say the driver of a 2013 Cadillac sedan was traveling west on SC 161 when they ran off the right side of the road, flipped over, and was ejected from the car. The driver, 24-year-old Dalton Wheeler, died at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation by SCHP and pathology and toxicology reports are pending.
