    York County woman dies in hospital, 29 storm-related deaths confirmed in SC

    ( QUEEN CITY NEWS ) — A woman was killed and several others were hurt in a crash while part of the group was clearing a downed tree in York County, SC Highway Patrol announced.

    On Friday, September 27, around 9:10 a.m., units responded to the scene along Lawrence Road, just south of Clover.

    Troopers said a group of people were in the roadway, cutting up a tree when a 2013 Ram pickup truck struck the tree and at least four pedestrians.

    All of the pedestrians suffered injuries and were transported to the hospital. The woman, identified as 66-year-old Victoria Leger, died at the hospital, the coroner’s office said.

    The driver of the Ram truck was not injured. The crash remains under investigation by the SC Highway Patrol. No details yet on whether any charges will be filed.

    As of 6 a.m. Monday, Sept. 30, South Carolina DPS has confirmed 29 storm-related deaths across the State of South Carolina.

    • Aiken County: 5
    • Anderson County: 4
    • Greenville County: 6
    • Greenwood County: 1
    • Newberry County: 2
    • Saluda County: 3
    • Spartanburg County: 6
