CHARLOTTE ( QUEEN CITY NEWS ) — A pedestrian was killed while trying to walk across the street in northwest Charlotte on Saturday night, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

Around 10:55 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 28, officers responded to a crash involving a pedestrian on the 3000 block of Freedom Drive. When they arrived, they found a man in the roadway with serious injuries and a Toyota Corolla with front-end damage.

The pedestrian, 65-year-old Thermon Beaufort, was taken to a local hospital where he died from his injuries, officials said. The driver of the Corolla, a 68-year-old man, was not injured.

Investigators believe Beaufort was walking across Freedom Drive when he was hit by the car going south. Police say toxicology reports are pending for him and no charges have been filed at this time.

This is still an ongoing investigation. Anyone with information should contact Detective Kupfer at 704-432-2169, Ext. 1, or Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
