    ‘Trauma surgeons and operating suites.’ Mobile hospital deploys to aid storm victims

    CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) – A dynamic mobile hospital featuring a trauma surgeon and operating suite was deployed Tuesday morning the Queen City to assist those ravaged by Tropical Storm Helene in the North Carolina mountain region.

    A team was deployed early Tuesday morning that included the Med-1 Mobile Hospital offering several services for those in need in Helene’s wake.

    Med-1 will serve as a receiving hospital where it can triage, treat, and either discharge or transport a patient to another hospital if more critical care is needed.

    Med-1 is self-sustaining for up to 72 hours and is composed of nearly a dozen vehicles with everything from an emergency department and dormitory trailers.

    “We are bringing trauma surgeons, anesthesia, emergency medicine, we will be able to provide an operating suite if needed,” Med-1 Mobile Manager Brian Sutton said before deploying.

    So far 60 deaths have been reported in the Upstate and western North Carolina including 40 seats in Buncombe County.
