CONCORD, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Calling all volunteer pilots with planes.

If you would like to combine your passion for aviation with your desire to help those in need, Operation Airdrop wants you.

Aviation is playing a huge role in the disaster relief efforts for those directly impacted by Helene.

It’s not just the Red Cross, North Carolina Air and Army National Guard, but everyday private citizens- volunteer private pilots- taking to the skies to fly supplies to hard-hit areas.

80+ flights from Concord to Western NC bring nearly 50,000 lbs of supplies

With many of us shell-shocked by the devastating scenes in Western North Carolina, we wonder what we can do to help. Operation Airdrop is looking for volunteers to donate, sort and help load supplies in aircraft that will fly them to small airports in storm-ravaged and isolated areas. It’s a non-profit organization that provides rapid-response disaster relief through flight- run entirely by volunteers.

It has successfully assisted in numerous disaster recovery missions, delivering supplies to hard-to-reach areas in the aftermath of natural disasters.

Operation Air-Drop is currently registering and dispatching volunteer pilots with their own planes out of Concord Padgett Regional Airport . Donations of relief supplies are being accepted in the Walmart Parking lot near Concord Mills.
