CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) – Another sewage spill has been reported in Charlotte in the wake of the deadly and catastrophic storm that moved through the area last week and left western North Carolina with a massive cleanup.

Storm Victims: How to identify safe water usage

The latest spill occurred on Wednesday near 10345 Nations Ford Road and resulted in 2,575 gallons reaching Sugar Creek in the Catawba River Watershed. The cause was listed as severe natural conditions and pipe failure.

“A majority of wastewater overflows can be prevented with your help,” said Cam Coley, spokesperson at Charlotte Water. “Anything put in plumbing or a manhole can cause wastewater overflows, spilling raw sewage into your street, your creek, or even inside your own home. Even products labeled as ‘flushable’ do not break down in the sewer system and can contribute to clogging.”

Sewage overflow was also previously reported in Sugar Creek with an 11,275-gallon spill from a broken pipe and ‘severe natural conditions’ along Sugar Creek and Arrowpoint Blvd. on Monday, the City of Charlotte said.
