MOORESVILLE, N.C. ( QUEEN CITY NEWS ) — A Yadkin County man died in a crash on Interstate 77 in southern Iredell County Monday afternoon.

According to the N.C. Department of Transportation, the incident occurred around 3 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 7, on I-77 North just beyond Exit 31 (Langtree Road).

A report from the N.C. State Highway Patrol says a 2016 Nissan Sentra driven by 67-year-old Kathleen Williams lost control, struck the median barrier and came to a stop. Williams then drove south in the toll lane to attempt to turn around. That’s when she was struck by a 2021 KTM motorcycle traveling north.

Troopers say the driver of the motorcycle, a 61-year-old from Yadkinville, was ejected from the motorcycle and succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Williams, 67, of Charlotte, and a passenger were transported by EMS to an area hospital, with minor injuries.

After the initial impact, the motorcycle stuck a Nissan Sentra driving north. The Sentra driver was not injured.

Upon completion of the ongoing investigation and consultation with the Iredell County District Attorney’s Office, charges are pending. The initial investigation indicates speed and impairment were not contributing factors in the collision.

Four of the five lanes northbound lanes were closed during the investigation for approximately two hours.
