FORT MILL, S.C. ( QUEEN CITY NEWS ) — All schools in Fort Mill are closed Tuesday due to a water main break in the area, the district announced.

The district said the effects of the water main break are impacting services to about half of the schools. The repairs are expected to extend into the day leaving restrooms and kitchens with no water.

There will be no eLearning day and the district said a make-up day will be scheduled next semester.

York County officials said around 5:30 a.m. on Tuesday that some areas had water restored overnight, but that the work on the leak is still in progress and that water may be shut off periodically throughout the day on Tuesday.

The break occurred near Highway 21 and Gold Hill Road.

As of 3:30 p.m., the majority of affected customers should have water service restored. Officials say if you lost water or experienced reduced pressure during this incident, you are under a precautionary boil water advisory.

Customers should boil their water for at least one full minute before drinking or cooking. Any ice made from the water should not be used for drinking purposes.
