Charlotte Hornet Foundation unveils new Chairman’s Legacy Fund at Ranson Middle School

CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — The Charlotte Hornet Foundation revealed renovations to the gymnasium at Charlotte-Mecklenburg’s Ranson Middle School on Tuesday.

This unveiling was in celebration of the new activation of the new Chairman’s Legacy Fund.

The fund — established in 2023 by the Hornets Sports & Entertainment Ownership Group — is focusing its first activation on revitalizing gymnasiums in nine local schools to create safe, inclusive and state-of-the-art spaces for students.

“Our entire ownership group is dedicated to supporting the Charlotte Hornets Foundation’s mission to make a lasting and meaningful difference in the community, and the Chairman’s Legacy Fund is one way to show our commitment each year,” said Hornets Sports & Entertainment Co-Chairmen Rick Schnall and Gabe Plotkin. “This year’s inaugural initiative focused on gym renovations is about so much more than just developing a love of basketball.  It’s about instilling essential values that the game can teach such as teamwork, discipline, commitment and leadership.”

As part of the initiative, $500,000 worth of basketball-centric renovations — ranging from new courts and goals to new bleachers and scoreboards — were completed during the CMS summer break at these schools in addition to Ranson Middle School:

• Julius L. Chambers High School
• Devonshire Elementary School
• Hopewell High School
• Lebanon Elementary School
• Providence High School
• Reid Park Academy
• Sedgefield Middle School
• Southwest Middle School

“We very much appreciate the support of the Charlotte Hornets Foundation, especially the work they’re doing in schools across our district as part of their inaugural Chairman’s Legacy Fund initiative,” said CMS Superintendent Dr. Crystal Hill. “Our students will be thrilled to use these refreshed spaces for many years to come.”
