LANCASTER, S.C. ( QUEEN CITY NEWS ) — Officials found skeletal remains that they believe belong to a missing man, according to the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office.

Around 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 8, construction workers found skeletal human remains in a wooded area near West Manor Drive. Deputies responded and the remains were taken to the Lancaster County Conorner’s Office for an autopsy.

The remains have not been positively identified yet, but evidence suggests that they are the body of Ricky Ray Wright who was reported missing on June 11, 2024, officials said.

The sheriff’s office says his family has been notified of the findings. The initial investigation doesn’t suggest foul play in connection to the person’s death.

The remains will be positively identified and the cause of death will be revealed when the autopsy is complete.

“It appears these are the remains of Ricky Wright,” Sheriff Barry Faile said.  “If that is correct, we’re sorry our efforts to locate him did not produce a different result, and our condolences are extended to his family and friends. Our office and the coroner’s office will thoroughly examine all the evidence in this case to positively identify the remains and determine what caused this death.”

As authorities continue to investigate this case, anyone with information can call the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office at 803-283-3388 and select Option 4.
