CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A new state representative was sworn in this week for a Charlotte district to take over for the late Kelly M. Alexander.

On Monday, Robert T. “Bobby” Drakeford was sworn in by Mecklenburg County Board Chair George Dunlap. Drakeford, a Democrat, now represents House District 107, which covers much of north Charlotte and southwest Huntersville. He was appointed to the position on Sept. 24.

He will serve the remainder of Alexander’s term, which ends at the end of the year. Alexander died in September at age 75 after being a member of the House for 8 ½ years. He also was director of Alexander Funeral Home.

Drakeford, a Charlotte native, is the founder and CEO of the Drakeford Company, a real estate and development firm.

Democrat Aisha O. Dew is running unopposed for the position in the November election.
