ROCK HILL, S.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — The best disc golfers in the world are returning to Rock Hill this week.

Winthrop University will play host to the U.S. Disc Golf Championship Oct. 10-13, marking the 26 th consecutive year York County has hosted the event.

The disc golfers will play at the Arena Course, which will be home to the Championship Village festival. It will feature free nightly concerts, more than 40 vendors, food trucks, kids’ activities, live painting and more.

Unusual games take center stage in Rock Hill under the lights of ESPN

“Whether you’re a die-hard disc golf fan or new to the sport, the Disc Golf Championship is an unforgettably fun experience,” said Andy Clinton, president and CEO of Visit York County. “You get the thrill of world-class competition right in our backyard, combined with a high-energy festival, family-friendly activities and free live music for our community!”

The Charlotte area is known as one of top regions for disc golf in the country, as evidenced by the annual championships in Rock Hill, plus championship-level courses like at Hornets Nest and Nevin parks in Charlotte. Rock Hill also is home to a distribution warehouse for the Innova disc brand.

Last year, Kyle Klein came out on top at the Par-64 course at 27-under par.

Day passes cost between $15-25; VIP packages are $99-$249. If viewers want a fully immersive experience, they can rent a private yurt for all four days in the heart of Championship Village. That will cost them $399.

Admission is free for anyone in the military, current or veteran; age 10 or younger; and students and faculty at Winthrop.

In addition to the competition and concerts, each day offers special themed events to keep the fun going. Locals can arrive at 5 p.m. and watch the last hour of play for free and stay for the evening concert.
