    Cold weather supplies needed for Hurricane Helene victims

    NEWTON, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — The City of Newton has announced its launching a cold weather supply drive to support individuals and families recovering from Hurricane Helene.

    The supply drive encourages the Newton community to donate items that will provide warmth to people during the quickly approaching winter months.

    Donations will be accepted October 14 through November 1.

    Where to drop off donations:

    • City Hall: 401 North Main Avenue
    • Newton Police Department: 411 North Main Avenue
    • Newton Fire Department Headquarters: 119 South Brady Avenue
    • Fire Station 2: 560 West 21st Street
    • Fire Station 3: 4197 Startown Road
    • Recreation Center: 23 South Brady Avenue
    • Central Recreational Center: 301 South Ervin Avenue
    • Development Services Center: 135 North College Avenue

    For larger items and bulk donations, please call (828) 217-1652 to arrange drop-off.

    Items needed:

    • Insulated clothing and footwear (coats, gloves, hats, scarves, sweaters, boots)
    • Waterproof outerwear
    • Thermal blankets
    • Sleeping bags
    • Portable propane heaters
    • Cooking stoves with fuel
    • Hand warmers

    Anyone who wishes to offer support and is unable to donate supplies may offer a monetary contribution to Catawba County United Way or the North Carolina Disaster Relief Fund .
