CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) – There is a blast of cold air on the way, most of which can be felt as early as this morning.

Temperatures have fallen overnight, dipping into the low to mid-40s around uptown and upper 30s in our mountains with mostly clear skies and light winds.

The mountains will get their first freeze this week, but could they also see snow?

Tuesday will be sunny and comfortable as highs make a run for the mid to upper 60s this afternoon. Winds will be light out of the northwest between 3 and 8 miles per hour as clouds build throughout the day.

We’ll have another cold night heading into Wednesday as overnight lows dip into the 40s over uptown and even 30s for the mountains. We’ll have a Freeze Warning in effect from 2 AM until 10 AM on Wednesday for Ashe & Watauga Counties as lows dip into the low 30s for some of our extremely higher elevations.

We can see a few spotty showers impact our western-facing slopes with a possible snow flurry or two for elevations above 3500 feet! We can even see an inch or two stick for areas above 5000 feet!

Wednesday will be well below normal with highs limited to 60 degrees. We’ll see even colder mornings heading into Thursday and Friday as upper 30s impact uptown and mountains fall into the upper 20s heading into the second half of the work week.

We’ll see a gradual warming trend heading into the second half of the work week with 70 returning in time for the weekend. We’ll stay sunny and dry through the weekend with more of the same pushing into early next week.

Today: Mostly Sunny & Comfortable. High: 67.

Tonight: Mostly Clear and Chilly. Low: 45.
