CHARLOTTE ( QUEEN CITY NEWS ) — A firefighter was hospitalized after being trapped in a collapse while responding to a south Charlotte three-alarm house fire overnight, the Charlotte Fire Department announced on Tuesday.

Fire crews responded to the blaze around 1:35 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15, at a home near 8500 Ledger Court near the Blakeney area. When they arrived, they saw heavy fire from the garage.

A second alarm was struck around 2 a.m. Tuesday, and just minutes later the third alarm was struck after a structural collapse that resulted in a mayday call and one firefighter getting trapped, officials said. The firefighter was quickly taken to a local hospital with minor injuries. CFD said they have since been released and are expected to make a full recovery.

Just after 3 a.m. Tuesday, the fire was under control with the effort of 80 firefighters at the scene. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

“The bravery and skill demonstrated by our teams this morning underscore the training and preparation that goes into every response. Their swift actions saved a life, and we are grateful for the positive outcome. Our thoughts remain with the firefighter and his family as he heals,” Charlotte Fire Chief Reginald Johnson said.
