MATTHEWS, N.C. ( QUEEN CITY NEWS ) — A Charlotte Air National Guard veteran and mother is getting some new wheels all thanks to a non-profit.

The giveaway took place Tuesday, Oct. 15, at Keffer Hyundai on East Independence Boulevard. The national non-profit Operation Homefront and U.S. Bank donated a 2022 Hyundai Palisade to a single mother of six, Shanta Swinton.

She served for 21 years and held the rank of master sergeant when she was honorably discharged in 2021. Swinton shares the home with her sons and shares one vehicle with them with 190,000 miles on it.

Since then, Swinton said she and her family have faced financial struggles post-military service. Swinton served in Saudi Arabia in 2000 and Pakistan in 2002.

Operation Homefront is a national nonprofit organization whose programs provide relief and recurring family support programs and services throughout the year to help military families overcome short-term difficulties, so they don’t become long-term hardships.
