(PINPOINT WEATHER) — The cold blast is here! Highs on Tuesday only reached the 60s, and on Wednesday, it will be even cooler.

Lows will fall to around freezing in the mountains, with 40s again around the foothills and piedmont. However, the afternoon is cooler — temps will struggle to break out of the 50s despite more sunshine. Bundle up! Frost and Freeze alerts have been issued for the mountains.

Thursday morning looks like the coldest. Lows will fall below freezing in the mountains, and drop to near the record of 35 in the Charlotte area. Friday’s lows will be in the upper 30s.

As far as the rain — or snow — forecast goes, how about that first snow of the season on Tuesday in the mountains? Some accumulation has been seen above 3c,500 feet, but it won’t last too long. Showers are possible for the rest of the night outside of the mountains, too. But after Wednesday morning, the outlook is a dry one through the weekend, with temperatures gradually warming up again.

Tonight : Lingering mountain snow, scattered rain showers. Low 43.

Wednesday : Sunny and cool. Breezy. High 61.
