HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) – Queen City News is spending the week in Henderson County capturing the stories and visuals of recovery and aid efforts after a trail of destruction was left by Hurricane Helene.

The Western North Carolina Air Museum has become a one-stop shop donation site where nearby residents in desperate need of supplies like diapers and soap to wash themselves continue to come and go. Three weeks ago the museum itself was under several feet of water. Meanwhile, the museum has lost just about everything, including planes that are no longer operable.

Henderson County PIO Mike Morgan said at the height of the storm they received over 4,000 911 calls. “Flood waters, trees everywhere, roads were washed out all across the county.”

Hendersonville’s Oklawaha Brewing Company never thought they’d be assisting disaster relief efforts, but they jumped into action distributing water in kegs to residents after the storm tore through.

Henderson County School District’s Kimbrell Arrowood said students made an emotional return to the classroom this week.

Car after car lined up outside the Western North Carolina Air Museum this week in Henderson County to donate items for those in need as residents in the area continue to seek supplies.
