TROUTMAN, N.C. ( QUEEN CITY NEWS ) — An 85-year-old woman has died after a crash involving a dump truck, according to the Troutman Police Department.

The crash happened just before 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 15, on South Main Street at Autumn Leaf Road.

Mildred Jones, 85, was turning left from Autumn Leaf Road onto South Main Street when it collided with a dump truck going south, officials said. The dump truck then rolled onto the passenger side where it hit a truck pulling a trailer waiting to turn left onto Autumn Leaf Road from South Main Street. Officials said this second wreck caused the truck to crash into a Troutman PD vehicle that was waiting in traffic behind the truck.

Jones and an 87-year-old man in the car with her were taken to local medical centers with serious injuries. Jones was pronounced dead when she got to the hospital, police said. The driver of the dump truck, a 46-year-old man, was also taken to a local medical center. No other injuries were reported.

South Main Street was closed for about three hours during the investigation. Authorties say no charges have been filed yet as the crash is still under investigation.
